How We Met
It was almost the summer before I transferred to UCI,
where my best friend Elizabeth was already attending. I
had been dating the same guy for three and a half years
and we had just recently called it quits barely two months
before. I was a newly single woman, and I was looking
for a few good men.
Getting to Know Each Other
When we first began dating, we seemed to adopt the “ignorance is bliss” approach to eachother’s respective activities.
Josh knew very little about dance and Marci knew next to nothing about football, and it was a good arrangement. We
supported eachother and thought one another were amazing! But as we began to spend more time together and learn
more about eachother, it became very apparent to both of us that our meeting was much more than mere coincidence.
At times it was simply uncanny how similar our backgrounds were to one another and how we shared so many of the
same morals and values. It was clear that God had a hand in bringing us together and that what the two of us shared
was special.
“I have never met anyone quite like Joshua. He is gentle, kind, patient, and caring and has the most unwavering ability
to put others ahead of himself. His selflessness astounds me, and his faith strengthens my own. I feel blessed to have
found him and to have him in my life.”
“I have never cared for someone the way that I do for Marci. She is loving, kind, good-hearted, and fun to be around.
She is more than the love of my life but my best friend and I thank God everyday that she is in my life.”

Joshua & Marci
Elizabeth was attached to a Chapman University football player at the time and was doing everything in her power to
brainstorm about any available guys that her boyfriend, Scott might be able to hook me up with. At last, it came to
her…….her boyfriend’s roommate, Josh! She was pretty sure that he had just broken up with his long time girlfriend,
and thought that it would be an excellent time to introduce us. I wasn’t so certain. Sure the prospect of getting to
know a new guy was a little exciting, but I wasn’t too keen on the idea of dating a big, tall, football playing muscle
man. He sounded like pure jock, and that had never really been my type. I didn’t want to be with someone who
thought crushing the skulls of his opponents was a good method of asserting dominance. That was just a little too
much testosterone for me. But all my worrying was for nothing. Elizabeth informed me soon after that alas, he had
gotten back together with his ex-girlfriend.
So another month or so passed before Elizabeth invited me to go out with her, Scott and Josh. I didn’t think much of
it, just a fun night out with friends. The guys decided they would come and pick us up at the dance studio where
Elizabeth and I both dance and teach. Finally they arrived, and Elizabeth and I began walking out to their car. Just as
we cleared the studio, Elizabeth said something I will never forget…… “Oh, I forgot to tell you, Josh is single.” Now
I don’t really know what a heart attack feels like, but if I had to bet on it, I’d say I had one at that very moment.
Betrayed by my own friend! I was pretty stunned. I was too stunned in fact to even say hello properly when I first
met the poor guy. I hurriedly hopped into the car and nervously buckled my seatbelt. I am happy to report however,
that I recovered, and the evening went quite well. To my surprise, Josh was not the meathead I had envisioned but
rather more of a big friendly giant type. Sadly, he was much too tall for me to get a good look at his face without it
being completely obvious that I was checking him out. So although I couldn’t remember what he looked like, I decided
that I wouldn’t mind if he called me. But of course I left that completely up to him, telling him he could get my
number from either Scott or Elizabeth if he was interested. I wasn’t gonna make it too easy for the guy, hahaha. Well,
turns out he was pretty interested……and the rest is history!
So the day I met Marci I was worried. I had met my roommate Scott before we picked up the girls and had a lot of
questions for him to find out what Marci was like. Scott’s parents were there and they all insisted that Marci looked
just like Scott’s girlfriend Elizabeth. So alike, they told me, that they could easily be mistaken for identical twins.
This really freaked me out. How could my roommate and I date girls that looked the same without feeling a little
strange? So when we picked the two of them up I was relieved that they really did not look anything alike.
The rest of the evening went by in a flash. I was amazed how easy it was to talk to Marci and really felt a
connection. Something was definitely different about this girl! At the end of the night she told me that she would
really like to hang out again but then would not give me her phone number. Rather she told me to talk to Scott if I
wanted to talk to her again. Feeling confused, but determined, I called Scott two days later, got her phone number, and
gave her a call. I left a message and did not expect to hear back from her for a couple of days. Much to my surprise
she called me back in a couple of minutes. Hours later, my ear aching and sore, our conversation ended and I knew
that something awesome was happening in my life.
